Flash -- Spotted Skunks Smart
(by Sanuye)A scientist has discovered that the spotted skunk, genus Spilogale, actually has human-level intelligence. The scientist who declared this said that it was "completely obvious". "All you have to do is look at them," she said, "and you can tell they're as smart as people."
Other scientists declined to comment, or frowned, or said something like, "Huh?" But they all admitted they'd never thought about spotted skunks before. The scientist who made the discovery said, "There are lots of species we haven't discovered yet, and even some of the species we have discovered may have human-level intelligence, but nobody has really paid any attention to them."
The scientist said she discovered the skunks' human-level intelligence when she was having tea outside. A spotted skunk hopped up to the bench near her. "I looked at the skunk and thought to myself, 'That skunk looks like it wants a cup of tea.' So I said, 'Hello there, skunk. Would you like some tea too?' And the skunk looked up at me sniffing and that's when I had the revelation."
The scientist submitted her story to the journal Nature but hasn't heard anything back yet.
(What? You don't believe me? Well then, Skeptic, how's this for proof -- the very scientist talking to the skunk! Now isn't it obvious how smart that skunk is?)
